How We Are Helping
Keep a Girl in School Program
Girls who do not have access to female hygiene products miss three to four classes each month during their menses, which adds up to 30 to 40 missed days per school year.
In 2021 alone, the Keep a Girl in School program conducted workshops for 1,676 girls in six secondary schools and donated approximately 44,000 female hygiene products.
Libraries for Secondary Schools Program
The program provides schools with textbooks, fictional and non-fictional books, and 5 computers, each with educational software (Soma Direct) which enables the students to access online and offline educational-related reading resources.
In 2021, two Schools were provided with libraries, enabling more than 470 students have access to a total of 2,183 books.
Bursary Support Program
The Bursary Support Program was created to increase the number of Tanzanian students accessing secondary school and tertiary education.
The Bursary Support Program has supported 57 students of which 36 attended university, 11 vocational & technical schools, and 10 in secondary schools.
Since 2016, WAF has focused on delivering three flagship programs – Keep a Girl in School, Libraries for Secondary Schools, and Bursary Support program.
We work principally in the southern regions of Tanzania in Mtwara and Lindi supporting projects that improve young people’s access to education. We do this in partnership with local authorities, regional partners and NGOs to achieve as much impact as possible.
Since we began our work, we have funded libraries and books, sponsored vocational training, put in water systems so the students have clean drinking water and built schools: we believe that investing in young people and their education strengthens communities and local economies and empowers the people we work with to build better futures for themselves and their families.
We’re proud of how much has been given back to their communities by the young adults we have supported.
